Uniting for Progress: Partnerships and Collaborations are Crucial in the Cystic Fibrosis Community
By: Kelly Simon, Head of Rare Disease

Standing alongside the cystic fibrosis community is central to our mission to empower people worldwide to live healthier at every stage of life. While there is currently no cure for CF, today's treatments and medications can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life. By leveraging our capabilities and focusing on equitable access, Viatris works to ensure people living with CF can get the medications they need no matter where they live or circumstances they face.
Our commitment to the CF community extends beyond the medicines within our portfolio. While we help provide access to many of the therapies commonly used by people with CF, our role is broader and more personal. As a long-standing partner, our goal is to make a meaningful and lasting difference for individuals living with cystic fibrosis and for the families, caregivers, and advocates who support them every day. For years, Viatris has shown up - engaging in policy discussions, collaborating with advocacy organizations, and working to help amplify the voices of the CF community.
We are proud to partner with and support the tireless work of nearly a dozen CF advocacy organizations, including Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, The Boomer Esiason Foundation, The Cystic Fibrosis Research Institute (CFRI), Emily’s Entourage, The Bonnell Foundation, Claires Place Foundation, Take a Breather Foundation, Rock CF Foundation, BreatheStrong Foundation and Pipers Angels. These organizations play a critical role in advancing education, access, and support for people affected by cystic fibrosis. Over the past year, several initiatives have made a meaningful impact within the community, including:
- For the 5th consecutive year, Viatris was recognized and honored as a national corporate sponsorship award from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for our leadership in the CF Community. We were also recognized for our contributions, authentic leadership and for continuing to create access to products the global community relies on.
- Viatris continues to support the Bowman Brothers Scholarship program created to provide trade school scholarships though living with CF. Meeting patients’ educational needs is an important step in their journey to enter the workforce.
- Work Proudly Program with Claires Place Foundation: People living with CF face unique employment barriers. As advancements in treatment improve health outcomes and life expectancy, many adults with CF find themselves needing to leave disability income and re-enter the workforce while managing a complex daily care regimen. Caregivers face similar struggles, balancing their loved one’s medical needs with financial responsibilities. Work Proudly bridges this gap by providing individualized career counseling, tuition assistance, technology, and job-readiness support to help participants secure sustainable, remote careers.
- CF Futures through the Boomer Esiason Foundation; supporting educational programs that provides direct services and information to patients and families as they navigate young adulthood and adulthood with CF, college guidance counseling services, and career counseling services.
- Impactful video and podcast series meant to address topics vital to the CF community in both video and audio formats. Presentations by medical experts as well as by personal experts who live with the disease provide up-to-date information, coping tools, and a sense of community through partnership with CFRI and The Bonnell Foundation
These efforts represent just a few examples of the important work happening across the CF community. Together with our partners, we remain committed to standing in unity - not only during CF awareness moments but every month of the year - as we continue working toward better access, stronger support, and brighter possibilities for people living with cystic fibrosis.
